I'm not usually prone to making these types of comparisons -- because I don't really believe the old adage that "history repeats itself", but I do think we can draw lessons from the past to help us better understand the present. In this regard I think the 1930's in Europe is informative about the dangers of the rise of "Authoritarianism".
